About Dr. Ma

Dr. Ma Madarin-speaking Asian American Therapist

Hi! I'm Dr. Winnie Ma (she/her/hers), a licensed psychologist passionate about supporting Asian immigrant and racial/ethnic minority youth and adults navigating life transitions. Together, we can build a path forward that honors your unique background and helps you find purpose.

My therapy approach is collaborative and strengths-based. I specialize in understanding and addressing psychological distress from a multicultural perspective, drawing on non-Western and Western frameworks. This allows me to effectively support first and second-generation immigrants, young adults, international students, and working professionals facing a range of challenges – relationships, family, career, or identity.

My own experience emigrating to the U.S. from Taiwan as an adolescent ignited an interest in Psychology. Navigating interpersonal and systemic challenges as a 1.5-generation immigrant taught me the importance of resilience, seeking support, and embracing diverse perspectives. My desire to help others on this journey led me to obtain my Ph.D. degree in Counseling Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. Beyond therapy, I am dedicated to training the next generation of culturally responsive and social justice-oriented mental health professionals through my role as a tenured professor and a core faculty member of the Clinical and Counseling Psychology program at William Paterson University of New Jersey.

With over two decades of experience working with culturally diverse populations in various clinical and educational settings in New York and New Jersey, I bring my knowledge and cultural understanding to my practice.

I am a bilingual therapist (Mandarin and English), ready to support your path towards a more meaningful life.
